I like this stuff. Maya Kaimal prepares some exceptional Indian dishes. By the way, I actually travelled to northern India in the early 90's. I still remember a masala dosa in a lentil wrap that I gobbled down when I was there. In a word: outstanding! Regarding this dish; I recommend adding a nice chutney. Delicious!
After trying the green garbanzo flavor of the same brand (which felt too watered down), I decided to use this one as a soup instead of adding it to rice. That wasn't a great idea, as I didn't expect it to taste so strong on its own (maybe because of the tamarind in the ingredients?). In conclusion, I think it is too strong to "drink" it on its own, and to liquid to add to rice. Might make for an exotic pasta sauce, though.
